I originally received a mailer offering a seal coat for around $800. When I called, I explained that I wanted my driveway to look cosmetically better than a simple seal coat—and asked what they could do. I was offered a much more expensive option for approximately $4,000, which I was told would include repairing and filling damaged areas with asphalt before applying two resurfacing coats. I made it very clear that I understood my driveway wasn’t perfect—I wasn’t expecting a brand-new driveway—but was hoping for something cosmetically better. Scheduling was easy, and they were able to come out within about two weeks. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive experience ended. A day before the resurfacing, someone came out to patch deeper areas with asphalt. The work appeared rushed, and several obvious problem areas were completely ignored. On the day of the resurfacing, the crew arrived during a heavy downpour. Instead of rescheduling, they waited roughly an hour, used leaf blowers to dry the driveway, and proceeded to apply the coating to a surface that had just been soaked by rain. By the time the crew left, I could already see areas where the new surface was flaking. I gave it another day, hoping it would cure properly, but it only became worse. Large sections became rough and craggy, with the topcoat peeling away entirely. I immediately contacted American Asphalt. What followed was weeks of frustration. I had to call six or seven times just to get any information about whether they planned to repair the work, apply another coat, or offer any sort of resolution. I was repeatedly told someone would get back to me, but no one ever did unless I called again. Eventually, a project manager was sent to inspect the driveway. I specifically asked that they pay attention to the area near my garage, where the peeling was at its worst. Unfortunately, the project manager arrived, looked around, and left before I could even get my shoes on to speak with him. After that,

In September of last year we had our driveway seal coated by American Asphalt. Looked as you would expect and the only exception is that we had to have them back a couple weeks after to reseal some of the cracks. Other than that went as expected. Fast forward to early in the winter when I noticed that some of the seal coat was flaking off in areas. Called AA to let them know to ensure that it was documented. In Late February once the snow was consistently melted noticed that a significant portion of the seal coat had flaked off and was no longer adhered to the driveway. I got a call back today (after a number of attempts contacting the office) to explain the situation fully expecting them to say “wow, that looks bad let us take care of it for you this spring to ensure that we meet our warranty obligation and have a satisfied customer”. Instead I was told that they have received a large number of calls and that this was a particularly rough winter with extended periods of below zero temperatures which does not work well with their seal coating mixture. I completely understand and appreciate this, however, we live in Northeast Ohio where it snows and oftentimes gets extremely cold. The warranty (see picture) states that AA is not responsible for acts of god such as rain, snow, wind, etc. if you are looking to use AA in the future, I would advise that you inquire about the lowest temperature and duration that the seal coat is good for under the warranty. As stated, it is very open ended and with any failure to the seal coat they could simply say that it was too cold or snowy and was not warranted. My only option now is to do nothing or pay the discounted rate they offered which is still going to cost me over $600 and not something we budgeted for.

I used American Asphalt for the first time this year. I've lived at this home for 30 years and heard from another neighbor about how happy they were with this company. I'm very picky with the work I get done at my home. Todd and the crew that came out were extremely professional and great to work with. But the best part is that my driveway looks better than it ever did in the past! The Sealcoating they use is much thicker. Very happy and highly recommend using them!

We have used other sealcoating companies. This company not only gave us the best coverage, they also went above and beyond. We needed foundation repair that we were surprisingly able to schedule on the same day as the sealcoating. American Sealcoating was not only willing to change, they were able to reschedule us for the next available day. I would definitely recommend them.
