Horrible company, used the wrong materials and added years to a paving project. They are taking hours away from people’s lives each day by making them suffer though poorly designed lane closures creating the worst traffic for commuters. This is an area that many people need to cross by each day to get to work, we need it to be finished.

Poor project delivery. And poor quality of work, the 15 is over 2years late, they work about 2 days a week on this project from what can be witnessed. There is no sense of responsibility for completing the project in a timely fashion to restore the road and open the freeway.

What is happening on highway 50 in Camino is a dangerous joke. I commute through there daily and it is a different mess every day. Some days the cones match the signs, some days they don’t. Today was a unclear Slalom course with most of the cones knocked down. Some days it’s completely unclear what lane you are driving in or even how many lanes there are. The center divider has been torn down and rebuilt multiple times and looks as ugly as a mud fence. I thought that once the paving started things would get better but no, the paving was so bad they had to grind 100% of it to get it smooth. Utter incompetence, Caltrans should get someone that knows what they are doing to fix this mess.

Let me preface my review by saying that the work they’re doing is somewhat decent. The section of mainline US50 that they’ve repaved is very smooth and nice to drive on, and the rest of the project LOOKS great, mostly. However, Security Paving’s lack of communication with Caltrans and the CHP is leading to lots of confusion and anger to those living in the vicinity of the Camino Safety Project, and to those who commute daily through that project. The contractor has failed to communicate lane/road closures to Caltrans, which in turn doesn’t allow Caltrans to provide adequate warning to Camino residents and the commuters, and even the tourists on their way to Tahoe. Not to mention that a good amount of times, their signage doesn’t match what’s actually going on, e.g. a dynamic message board stating that the left lane will be closed ahead, but the barrel cones and the lit arrow sign both say to merge to the left as the right lane is actually closed. With the transition from building the underpass to the repaving of mainline 50, there’s been lots of confusion and anger as no one knows what to expect on any given day. One day you can leave your neighborhood and go one way, the next, you have to detour 5 miles to be able to get to work. Another thing to add is how long it’s taking them to finish the center divide. There’s multiple sections that they’ve made, which Caltrans has rejected. They redo that section only to have Caltrans reject it again, delaying the process further because they can’t seem to get one stretch of concrete right. Some crews are competent while others aren’t. Highly irritating to me as someone who drives through daily, and I can only imagine the frustration of the residents who reside within the project’s boundaries.

This company gets many local contracts but the "business processes" seem to change with the wind for contractors. Contractors complete work as required and wait for several months to get paid. On top of that, the requirements for contractors change even after the work has been completed. The contracts process and consistency seems to be seriously lacking. The family owned aspect seems admirable and they have been in business for a long time but maybe it is time for a small business contractor to offer some honest feedback about their business processes. How is it legitimate for them to ask for documents months after a contract has been completed and services have been rendered as required without payment.
